From the Mouths of Babes

It never ceases to amaze me the things that Isis says. There are words and phrases she repeats. There are nonsense, random, silly things she conjures up on her own. There are questions and statements and singing in meter. There is the random church shout out like, "I have to go poop!" which sends snickers and smiles in a wave through the back of the church. Her preschool teacher will approach me with something she must tell me and I usually cringe because I just can't imagine what it might be. Last week she told Miss Kim that when she gets big she will have a baby in her belly and pump milk. Sigh.

Sometimes I wonder how or why or where her thoughts come from. Her brain is, however, a blank slate just waiting for information to be posted. Usually I laugh. Sometimes I hold my breath. But I am always astounded at what a three year old is capable of.

Here are a few tidbits of Isis-isms that have spilled forth over the last few months
On Existence
Mommy, why are we real?
Why do I grow up?

On Object Permanence
Will Eliza be here forever? Yes. But will she be here tomorrow?
On Theology
When you yell echo and hear ECHO, that is God talking back to you.
On Realism and Fantasy
Does Elmo have snacks at his house?
On Fine Arts
Mommy I like this song. It 's by a man named Sting. Sting bites!
On Anatomy
Daddy, I want you to be a girl. How do I do that? You just take off your private part, shave your beard, and get brown eyes!
Let's just stop right there for today.
