It occurred to me recently that our baby is almost one. I don't know what we've been doing for the past year but apparently about a year has passed. Time hastened when Isis was born. It doubled when Eliza was born. Sometimes I wonder how fast time goes for families with four or five kids.
It has kind of been a blur really. I guess it's the two night feedings coupled with the early mornings with two children that leave me wondering what's going on. Seriously. I am a very low energy person with little stamina. I require a lot of sleep and easy going days. Why didn't anyone tell me how much energy children have? I struggle alot. I am not one of those moms who goes out looking "ready" or even pretends to have taken a recent shower. You see me out in a bandanna and it's a sure sign of showerlessness. Sometimes I make up words too.
So what has happened in a year? Eliza has now learned to scale the steps, speed crawl, stand alone for a few seconds, and take steps with help. She has even invented her own crawl which involves pushing a piece of clothing with one hand and crawling with the other. I call it her Stiff Arm crawl and it gets her places in half the time.
Her favorite place in the house is the bathroom. She loves unrolling the toilet paper and then eating it. Any chance to get her fingers in the toilet is a huge thrill for her usually followed by sticking them directly into her mouth. We have a four year old who sometimes forgets to flush. Sometimes she poops. This is exceptionally fascinating for Eliza because she actually has a target to aim for.
She recently started to make a moo sound. She loooooves the cows outside and will sometimes moo at me if she wants to go check them out. Just yesterday she started saying boom and today she started making a car sound. Sometimes at the dinner table Isis will try to get her to makes these sounds. Isis will coax her saying, "Eliza, can you say boom?" Eliza will then purse her lips and make fart noises at Isis which sends her laughing. I love that conversations are now taking place and I dont' have to be a part of them. In that regards, multiple children are good for introverts,
She has two bottom teeth and her two top ones are sticking through. She puts absolutely everything she can in between them including my big toe. Isis was never a biter. Eliza occasionally throws herself at me and chomps whatever lands between her teeth.
At this point I would venture to say I am her favorite person in the world. That's nice. After that Daddy and Isis are a quick second. The cows are third. Although Isis tends to get reactions out of her that neither of us can so sometimes I think Isis is actually her favorite and that I am purely functional. That's okay too.
In less than two months we will be lighting a single candle on a tiny cake. It's a little hard to swallow that within a year one child will turn one and the other will go to kindergarten. I once heard someone say, The days may seem long, but the years are short. It's a good reminder on days when I throw my children at Chris the second he gets home. I think the years may be short, but each one gets better.

love the picture at the top. CANNOT wait to see you guys! It cannot come soon enough.
I agree, the top picture is precious. The other day, Sadie showed me her first loose tooth. I cried. Sometimes, I can't wait for time to move on and other time I feel a bit panic-y about it. We do the best we can with all of it. It sounds like you're doing great.
Oh gosh, I just love her to pieces. C'mon December so I can see my little pumpkin pie Eliza Kate. And Isis too, our little goddess. I can't wait to see them interacting. Sounds like that is the most fun. Um, you have some ego problems by telling the world that you daughter picks you before Chris. Geez. And I agree with Alyssa - I love the picture you put on the top of your blog. Send it to me. Now.
