Where Heaven and Wolves Meet

The topic on Isis' mind these days is heaven.  It's not because someone she knows has recently died.  I think it's because she is on the verge of six and her little mind is starting to grasp and question and process things on a deeper level.  Heaven seems to intrigue her the most probably because it's...well...abstract.  And it seems like the deeper the questions get, the less answers I have.

Questions like...How do I get to heaven? And by this I think she's looking for the direct route, street names.  If I die here and my body is here, what part of me goes to heaven?  Will my body be here and my head be in heaven? Why don't toys die? How does God die? Who buries the people who bury people?

For Christmas this year Grammy had gotten Isis a few children's books about heaven.  She's been picking those a lot lately for her bedtime stories.  Sometimes when she has a specific question she suggests we go look in her book.  Five year olds are pretty random so actually getting a chance to talk about real things can be a rare treat....that doesn't last real long.

One night after finishing her bedtime stories, Isis told me she felt sad that she never got to meet her other Pop-Pop who is in heaven.  I told her that sometimes I wonder what it would be like to go to Grandmom's house and have him there too.  She liked that thought.  She smiled and thought about it too.  Then she looked at me and said, "Mommy, do you remember the story of Little Red Riding Hood?"  I shook my head.  "Well," she continued, "in that story the wolf eats the Grammy...And she is in his tummy...but then he gets a tummy ache and throws her back up and animals really shouldn't eat people cause it's not good for their tummies."

you had me with the whole pop-pop part...nothing like a 5year old keeping it real! I love this girl of yours!

Tell Isis that I ate my baby but I will eventually "throw it up too". I think I still believe that animals go to heaven too. Hey Bruce Willis. There's a kid's version of "Heaven is For Real" that my mom got all the grandkids. Maybe I will get that for her for her bday. One time Bodie saw a deer with it's head cut off by the side of the road and he said, "Oh I guess just his head went to heaven."
