Isis Lately

A few days ago Isis was getting ready to brush her teeth. I sat in amazement and silence as the following sequence of events unfolded. To be honest, I had just put in a mouthful of mouthwash and sat down on the toilet to pee as to make everything more efficient. This left my hands tied, my mouth shut, and Isis to her own demise.

She began by carefully squeezing some toothpaste onto her brush. She looked at it and ate it. She then proceeded to begin brushing but somehow leveraged the toothbrush which sprang up out of her mouth leaving a giant blue streak across her forehead. She then quickly wiped the blue smudge onto her clean shirt and then stared at it for a minute. She was quiet and contemplative then smiled rather large and declared, "It's pretty."

I almost spit my mouthwash all over the bathtub because sometimes I am amazed at how quickly an unfortunate sequence of events can occur. But I am usually even more intrigued by a three year olds response to these events. And I wonder what goes through her head. Then a few days later she appears looking like this...

and it all makes a little more sense to me. Today she found a bug in the house. She thinks every bug is a beetle and loves them all just the same. She first put the live bug in her dollhouse then cradled it in her arms and sang to it. It is very lovely really. Except that at this point I don't know exactly where the bug ended up. But this is Isis lately and it's quite a fascinating show.

Her Sunday School class has been preparing for Easter. She comes home and tells me what story Miss Marcia has read to her class. Here is Passover according to Isis...

There was a man and he was bored so he decided to have small group at his house. They ate bread and grape juice. Why did they have bread and grape juice? Because that is what Miss Marcia told them to do.

And the following week was Palm Sunday and the story went as follows...

Jesus rode on a donkey but he did not know his way. He did not know his way so Curious George and the man with the yellow hat came and helped him.

Did I mention I don't know what goes on in a three year olds brain? Did I mention she also looked like this...

I sense a Cindi Lauper thing going on. What's with the pink necklace dangling from her hand anyway?

The moments in our household that might appear dull are quickly livened by questions such as...

Can we just glue my hair back today?

Do boys make pancakes?

Can I throw my vegetables all the way to Pennsylvania?

Why do all the fairies in this book look like Uncle Aaron? (Sorry about it Uncle Aaron)

Does God sleep with his wife?

Will I get Aunt Karla sick when she comes over? No, you have allergies. You can't give them away. Why, because they are stuck to me?

Will it thunder tonight? I don't know. Will God make the choice?

Thunder is God talking to you. I don't want to listen to him.

And my personal favorite...

This shirt is good for cooking in AND for wiping your nose on!!!

Anybody wanna come over for supper? It's a free show.
